Our History

The San Diego Homebrew Festival & Competition was a brainchild of a father, Erick, whose sons attend Jefferson Elementary and is a member of Friends of Jefferson. An avid homebrewer for 12 years, Erick took his idea to George at The Homebrewer who was 100% on board with the idea. It was presented to Friends of Jefferson and the brainstorming began. On November 15, 2015, The first annual SD Homebrew Festival and Competition was presented to San Diegans with 30 participating homebrewers, local breweries, a food truck and vendors, and was a huge success! The San Diego Homebrew Festival & Competition is one of the largest fundraisers for Friends of Jefferson and all proceeds benefit Jefferson Elementary to support educational and enrichment programs, after school clubs, additional staffing and more. Not only is this event important for our school, it is an important event for San Diego and its beer culture. We support the love of craft beer and the hobby of making beer. The love and support from the community is overwhelming and we are fortunate to be a part of it.
